Does your website need a refresh?

There are some classic signs that you need your website refreshed, but generally you know when your current site has reached it’s expiry date.
When I started Flexible Web, I believed a day of face-to-face teaching was the perfect way to get small businesses like yours up and running with a website.
However, I always listen to feedback I get from prospecive clients.
Recently, I’ve had some small businesses who have basically said “Just make my problem go away”.
By this, they want someone to build their website for them and never have to get involved with anything directly themselves.
The big advantage of this approach is that you don’t have to do, something that you don’t want to do.
I completely understand that some small businesses want to focus on what they do best and completely outsource their website to someone else.
Why add an unnecessary task to your already busy schedule.
In fact, looking after a website that you have no desire to look after will inevitably result in a negative website experience for you and your clients.

In the interests of transparency, there is a major disadvantage to this approach.
If you don’t know how to use your website, you will need someone to publish fresh content for you, so you’ll be looking at some kind of retainer, or something that I would never recommend is that your website remains static.
In other words, it will look the same on day 100 as it does on day 1.
If Google rankings are important to you, then this is a bad strategy.

Of course, you can easily employ myself or a third-party to create your initial and ongoing content by means of say a retainer.
However that does add an additional ongoing cost to your business if you choose to go down this route.
The price of a Flexible Web website is the same, regardless of whether you choose to go down the day of face-to-face training route or whether you completely hand it over to me to take care of.
In terms of content, you, or someone else within the business, will need still need to play a part in this.
After all, you know your business better than anyone else.
Make sure that whoever you choose to create your content goes through a thorough interview process with you.
Also ensure that they talk through their strategy with you which MUST include how they will measure the success of your website in terms of traffic and Google rankings.
